I’ve found a mistake!

This pattern does have some known errors.

Incorrect cutting information on some paper patterns: Please follow cutting out guide on first page of booklet. The errors are as follows: 1 – Pattern Piece D Flap: pattern piece should read “Cut 1 outer, cut 1 lining, cut 1 fusible fleece, cut 2 medium weight interfacing”; 2 – Pattern Piece G Back strap tunnel: pattern piece should read “Cut 1 outer or contrast, cut 1 medium weight interfacing”; 3 – Pattern Piece I Zip and slip pockets: pattern piece should read “Cut 1 outer, cut 2 lining, cut 3 medium weight interfacing”.
Paper Piece B Lining measurements: Some of the paper patterns have the measurements reversed on the cutting out page for Paper Piece B Lining. The correct measurements are 13″ x 12″ (33cm x 30cm). The paper pattern piece, label, and PDF patterns are all correct.
Material requirements: You may need 1 5/8yds (1.5m) of medium weight interfacing for this bag.

Mrs H – The Hope Handbag – Paper Pattern

The essence of The Hope Handbag is style through simplicity – with a budget-friendly materials list, the use of skill building techniques to create structure, and lots of potential for customisation. The petite purse has small grab handles that are perfect for holding in your hand, and is an ideal size to carry as an every day bag. The finished dimensions of The Hope Handbag are 11 1/2″ wide x 9″ high x 5″ deep (29cm x 23cm x 12.5cm).

The Hope Handbag sewing pattern guides you through how to create faux rolled handles that nestle perfectly in your hand. Inside is a zip pocket and slip pocket, and the central space is secured by a top zip closure. If you already follow Mrs H, you’ll know that she’s usually a huge fan of using lots of blingy hardware, however with The Hope Handbag, she’s tried to keep the hardware list small. This past year has been a challenge for so many of us, and she wanted The Hope Handbag to be budget-friendly. Although The Hope Handbag is low on bling, it has a lovely large front panel to play with. You could fussy cut a feature fabric, use applique , or add a little embroidery.

Or, how about a patchwork panel for the front? During testing, Mrs H created a patchwork hack for the front panel, with the option to add a small slip pocket that is just the right size for a travel pass. If you’re purchasing the Hope Handbag direct from us, we’ll automatically add this bonus file to the downloads area of your account. If you’ve picked up your pattern from one of our lovely retailers, please click here to download the patchwork panel instructions for free:

Mrs H – The Ring Sling – Paper Pattern

Mrs H designed The Ring Sling as her perfect everyday bag. This bag is the ideal size to sit on your hip or under your arm, depending on whether you prefer a cross-body or shoulder bag. And, with four outer pockets as well as a slip pocket and zipped pocket inside the bag, it can carry a surprising amount!

The Ring Sling bag is cleverly constructed to reduce cutting time and maximise stability. Through the off-set seams the bag has stability with very little stabiliser needed. In fact, if you’re using faux leather, you may wish to omit the stabiliser altogether!

Mrs H – The Squiffy Sling – Paper Pattern

Simple but stylish, The Squiffy Sling is a great beginner sew. With fun asymmetrical styling but just one pattern piece for outer and lining, it’s a quickie!

One of my most popular sewing patterns, this is a great pattern for showing off your interesting fabrics. Use a solid fabric in a bold colour to contrast with your faux leather base overlay, or use a fun design to really make the shape of the bag pop.

The pattern includes instructions on using a half moon magnetic snap, creating a fully lined cross body strap and adding both zip and slip pockets. There are also placement markings for using a different fastener on the pattern piece.

As this bag sewing pattern has just one main pattern piece, you might find it easiest to use non-directional fabrics.

Mrs H – The Studio Backpack – Paper Pattern

New from Sewing Patterns by Mrs H – The Studio Backpack! With a modern design and clean lines, The Studio Backpack would make a great work bag, school bag or everyday bag.

The Studio Backpack uses a lot of bag bling. The adjustable backpack straps are fixed to the Studio using strap tabs securely attached (and riveted for extra security!) to O-rings at the top of the bag.

Short strap handles also affixed through the O-rings give you another set of options for carrying your beautiful bag. Depending on the length you choose to make your strap handles, you could also carry The Studio on your shoulder, in the crook of your elbow, or as a tote in your hand – when you’re not wearing it as a backpack, of course!

No surprise – this design is packed with pockets! On the outside, two large slip pockets that are ideal for showing off fabric panels, or customising with embroidery, patchwork or a little extra bag bling. Inside, under a secure top zipper closure, there’s a lovely large central space, zipper pocket, and slip pockets.

Designed for adventurous beginner bagineers, The Studio Backpack bag sewing pattern includes a lot of different bagmaking skills, with comprehensive instructions to guide you through as you learn these useful techniques.

For more experienced bagineers, The Studio Backpack offers excellent opportunities for customisation. You could play with patchwork, quilting or embroidery with the large outer panels, experiment with different types of hardware, or even add (even more) pockets! If you’re new to adapting bag designs to fit your style, we recommend picking up a copy of Mrs H’s Complete Bag Making Masterclass

Mrs H – The Supernova Satchel – Paper Pattern

The Super Nova Satchel has hidden strap connectors that are secured with rivets. The straps can be made double-sided (so with a different fabric each side, or vinyl on one side and fabric on the other), and there are two different handle lengths to choose between.

The diagonal zipper paired with the snaps helps to keep your Super Nova Satchel secure while you’re out and about. A bonus from using a diagonal zipper is that the zipper is longer than the bag width! This means that you’re able to see far more than a traditional zip top because you can open the zip into a square and see the inside fully, making it easier to quickly pop things in and out of your Super Nova when it is open.

The Super Nova Satchel has a large pocket on the front and back panels that you can leave undivided, or divide if you prefer to have multiple pockets. Dividing one of the large pockets into three sections has been most popular with bagineers so far! Inside is a zip pocket, a slip pocket, a full-width slip pocket, and a beautifully large central space.

At the bottom of the Super Nova Satchel you’ll be adding a bag base (we like to use cheap plastic cutting boards from our local homewares store!) and bag feet. The outer base of the Super Nova Satchel curves gently up the sides of the bag. These features give a lovely sturdy base to your bag, as well as helping to protect the contents of your bag from the elements.

And, the sewing pattern includes instructions and pattern pieces for two sizes of bag! With all these features, this is a great customisable bag sewing pattern that you can adapt to fit your needs!
